This three-bedroom home in Dallas has a separate art studio and apartment

This Dallas property, with its separate apartment and art studio, fits that era of multifunctional residences.

Between the three structures on the 0.76 acre property, there is a total of 5,080 square feet of interior space. The main house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a powder room, and the apartment above the garage adds an additional bedroom and bathroom.

Architect Mark Domiteaux designed the house at 4303 Middleton Road as his personal residence, said listing agent Janelle Alcantara of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty. It was built in 1986 and has been updated ever since. After selling the home, the original architect was on board as subsequent owners made updates that Alcantara says give the design a cohesive feel.

She said the land resembles a serene botanical garden due to its landscaping and the positioning of the house and other buildings on the land.

“As soon as you turn on the drive, you really feel like you’re in a calm, peaceful, mindful place,” Alcantara said.

A long gravel driveway runs down one side of the plot, and the main house is set back from the street, with a large, amply landscaped front yard. A privacy wall runs along the front of the house, parallel to the gravel driveway. On the inner side of the privacy wall there is a covered patio with enough space for a dining table and an outdoor kitchen area.

The front door leads directly to the main living area, which is a large open plan space that connects a living room, dining room, kitchen and another living area. French doors run along the wall in the first living room and provide access to the patio. The second living room has large windows, fitted wardrobes and access to another patio in the backyard.

The main house has three bedrooms. The master suite is at the end of a hallway near the front of the property, and it has French doors that give access to the patio at the front of the house. The main bathroom has a sauna, a steam shower and two closets. The second bedroom has a full bathroom and access to a private patio along the side of the house. The third bedroom is used as an office and there is a nearby shower room in the hallway.

Above the independent three-car garage, there is a one-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, living room and dining room, bedroom and bathroom.

Another separate structure on the property is used as an art studio and features a half bathroom, storage closets and ample open space. The studio was added to the property when it was owned by Dallas artist and photographer Nic Nicosia, who shot a film titled Middletown in the neighborhood.

The house is on the market for $2.7 million.
