The new art studio in GR aims to be an inclusive space

“I’m an Artist” caters to kids, teens, and even adults, and the owner says it’s an inclusive space for everyone.

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — A brand new art studio is the first of its kind in Grand Rapids, and the owner is thrilled to help people connect with their inner artist.

The “I Am an Artist” community studio has opened along Wealthy Street in Gaslight Village.

They offer children’s art camps, guided art classes, parties for all ages, events, and even open workshops on weekends. You can find a complete list of all their courses and events, and their cost, in the courses tab of their website.

The studio has already hosted artists from all over West Michigan and hopes to expand in the years to come.

“I’m an Artist” caters to kids, teens, and even adults, and the owner says it’s an inclusive space for everyone.

“It’s very important, for example for my daughter, to have a space away from school, away from the pressure of performance,” said owner Jantje Jenson. “It’s a totally non-judgmental zone where you can be yourself.”

Open Studio is held every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with donations appreciated.

Jensen says people can bring their own supplies or use the studios, but it’s all about a time for self-expression.
