Star City Art Studio Celebrates National Arts and Humanities Month

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – October is National Arts and Humanities Month (NAHM)! It was created 30 years ago by Americans for the Arts.

The annual celebration was created to encourage Americans to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their lives, as well as to appreciate the different cultures in their society. One way to celebrate is to support the arts in the community.

WFXR’s Hazelmarie Anderson rolled up her sleeves and learned the importance of ceramics at Common Clay Pottery.

Americans for the Arts offers four main ways to participate in arts and culture.

  1. Participation in programs and events
  2. Encourage their children to participate
  3. Making an art or performing art as an amateur
  4. Support the arts through donations of time and money

The nonprofit isn’t alone in enjoying the arts this month. On September 30, President Joe Biden issued the following proclamation for this October celebration:

“For centuries, the American arts and humanities have been a beacon of light and understanding, recording our history and advancing new ways of thinking. During this National Arts and Humanities Month, we celebrate our nation’s visionary artists, scholars, and creatives whose work touches and reveals the soul of America…”

President Joseph F. Biden

The President continues:

“…NOW THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, proclaim hereby October 2022 as National Arts and Humanities Month. I call on the people of the United States to observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and celebrations…
