Southern alumnus opens art studio in downtown Joplin – The Chart

Local artist John Coleman is the founder and sole operator of the brand new Joplin’s Create N Sip Studios. Occupying the corner of 3rd Street, its downtown establishment is part of a growing list of evening entertainment spots, all within walking distance of Main Street.

As he was previously affiliated with a similar public studio service, RSVPaint, Coleman eventually took control of the assets, moved to Joplin, and launched the rebranded Create N Sip studios.

“First of all, I love doing paint and sips. The idea behind the business was to give people a chance to create and do something they might never have time for. or that they wouldn’t be comfortable doing on their own. I want to give people the opportunity to relax and try something new,” Coleman said.

“I first attended Missouri State University for art therapy, or rather art as therapy. I also had years of experience in bars and restaurants, so my original plan was to merge these passions. Art is very therapeutic. I want to give people the opportunity to let their feelings flow onto the canvas in an environment where there is no judgment.

The studio follows seasonal patterns and themes for art projects and allows guests to bring their own drinks for a nominal fee. While the studio sessions are aimed primarily at an adult audience, attendees aged thirteen and over are welcome.

Wednesday and Saturday nights are considered open to all ages and allow for an open studio experience where guests are encouraged to express themselves and create however they choose.
