Motivated by limited art classes in Sonoma Valley schools 20 years ago, Keith Wicks, a well-known Sonoma Valley artist, decided he would try to find a way to fund more art education.

At the Sonoma Plaza Farmers Market, artists paint “on the dial” and then sell their work on site. Finished paintings will be displayed in the southeast quadrant of the Plaza near West Napa Street and 1st rue Ouest at 6:30 p.m. and will be on sale until 7 p.m.

The big outdoor event takes place in Sonoma Plaza, with artist demonstrations, live music, and free, fun art activities for kids. Each of the Participating Artist of the Week’s paintings is on display and available for purchase.

Since 2002, the Foundation has donated more than $1.7 million to SVUSD schools and community arts partners for arts education programs both in the classroom and at community venues.

An important part of the fundraising effort is an annual gala dinner that showcases the “best of the best” paintings. Each artist brings what they consider to be their best painting of the week to be judged by their peers.
