Local artists will fill the Kentuck Art Center court selling their creations to Kentuck Saturday Art Market this Saturday, August 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is free to the public, but local artists will have items ranging from crochet potholders to glass art to jewelry for sale. The artists will be at their tables to present their work and answer any questions about it.

There will also be face painting, a free art activity and Rita’s gelato.

Kentuck program manager Mary Bell said the event gives the community a chance to connect with local artists.

“Our mission is to perpetuate the arts, empower artists and engage the community, and we believe it does all of that,” Bell said. “We think it’s really important to connect the community with local artists and provide the community with something to do.”

Bell said the event draws people to downtown Northport and encourages people to come to the Art Market, visit area businesses and visit the Northport Farmers’ Market.

“We really see it as something valuable to bring to our community and our local artists,” Bell said.

This is Kentucky’s second art market of the year, and they will host two more this year on September 17 and November 5.

Artists can rent space at the market for $10. They must apply, be approved and pay the fees before the market. There is also an optional $10 table rental and $1 metal chair rental for vendors.

While applications for this week’s market are closed, apps for the next two markets will be open until one week before the market date.
