A weekend extravaganza of yay, yum and feel-good fun begins May 27! – Apartment613

The premiere of the Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) free art market will soon transform the Gallery into a building-wide art fair, showcasing over 30 artists and creators from the Ottawa-Gatineau region.

The free weekend art market takes place on Saturday May 28 and Sunday May 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can view providers and schedule free programming, and sign up for free here (although walk-ins are welcome).

From multimedia art, prints, ceramics and handcrafted jewelry to treats for foodies, the event is sure to be a hit. The OAG Art Market also offers free workshops like community collage quilt, tours of exhibits in English and French, and activities for the whole family (look for the art tent!). Bring a tote bag (or two) and shop supporting local makers and your OAG.

Rebecca Clouâtre, passing time, 2022, hand-cut collage on handmade St-Armand paper, birch frame, 23”x 23” (framed). Market value $800, starting bid $400.

The Art Market is part of the OAG DONATE TO GET AN ART SALE Experience, which will kick off the weekend festivities on Friday, May 27! The Art Auction is OAG’s premier fundraiser and Ottawa’s best spring party. This year, it will be an auction like no other! The more than 90 artists who donated their works to the auction will receive 50% of sales proceeds to support their practice. The amazing display of their work will be on display all weekend, and you can bid all weekend too! The remaining dollars raised from the auction will be used to keep OAG free and to support events and activity programming.

Be sure to check out and bid on the work of future art stars like Priya Gurnani, Willem Deisinger, Maria Aguilar-Cruz and more to come, which are featured on the TD Emerging Artists Wall. This new curated auction feature will showcase exceptional pieces from artists who are beginning their journey.

Jamie Kronick, Carol Coventry, 2021, pigment print, 12” x 12”. Market value $550, starting bid $225.

“We wanted this year’s OAG Art Auction to be extra special and welcome all of our supporters back into the building. It’s already amazing because we’re (finally!) back in person and ready to party and shop, but also because the event has so much more to offer and so many more ways for fans of art to help support the Gallery, local artists and decision makers,” said Eilidh Kyte, OAG Strategic Initiatives and Special Events Officer.

The opening gala of the GIVE TO GET ART auction, back in person for the first time in two years, will take place on Friday, May 27, from 6:30 p.m. to midnight. You can buy tickets here for the VIP welcome, which begins at 6:30 p.m., for an additional hour of bidding plus food stations and cocktails. General admission begins at 7:30 p.m.
